The Mandalorian and Grogu
I watched The Mandalorian and Grogu. This was the first Star Wars film I have seen in years.
I loved the original trilogy, as a child in the 80s. I was told off, on Threads, for saying that is where it should have ended. I was quite excited when, after a 15 year wait there were new Star Wars films. The Phantom Menace! I watched, and it was OK, but nothing like the magic of the originals. Eventually Attack of the Clones came out, I've seen it. Wasn't impressed. And that's where I've left it.
Just remembered I liked liked the Droids, and the Ewoks cartoons, back in the 80s.
My son, now 11, has seen some of the animated series. Maybe just Rebels? And we watched the originals a while back.
But, today, we went to the cinema for The Mandalorian and Grogu. I think it was OK. It worked without needing any background into on the current galactic situation, and characters. I suppose it would have been nice to know how The Mandalorian and "Baby Yoda" met, etc. But it was fine without the details. There was plenty of action, the plot wasn't complex.
The one thing that really stood out to me was aspects of the special effects. Mostly they were as expected, the droids were natural looking, etc. But there were two aspects that really stood out as "odd". I don't think there will be any spoilers.
Firstly, there are several very small characters. And the way they moved looked really strange. Like they were too "floaty" as they walked on the ground. It was every scene they were in. It looked strange.
The other issue was there were two very large droids. It was a bit of a Chekhov's gun situation, you see them, and later on they were actually part of the action. Just the way they moved was strange. Like a weird clockwork effect. Like they were fake stop-motion animated. I assume they weren't actually animated like that. They just had this strange, not quite real look about them.
