Changes

For no apparent reason I seem to have changed the apps I use. I don't know why I do this sort of thing. I've been using Vivaldi instead of Firefox as my browser. And Obsidian instead of Zim for my notes.

It was quite easy to import my Firefox into Vivaldi, it did it all automatically. Then I could use everything immediately. It does feel faster, but I do miss some aspects of Firefox.

Zim to Obsidian was a bit harder. For ages I used Joplin, I had it on my Linux laptop, Android phone, and old iPad. And I could sync the notes between them, very helpful. At some point it stopped working on the iPad. It had been hard to find something that worked on all 3, so when that stopped working I decided just something that worked on my laptop and phone would be best.

I think it was easy enough to export everything, and just use it in Zim. I might have needed to change the filename, which oddly uses markdown files with a .txt extension. And I used syncthing to synchronise the files onto my phone where I used markor to edit/view them there.

I'm still using syncthing to synchronise the files, but I renamed them all to .md and started using Obsidian. It has a better editor, and an app for Linux and Android. I like that notes can have "properties" and you can make a database/spreadsheet from the properties in notes. Annoyingly it uses a different markdown flavour. I had to convert the headings, and the links.
